Project 1_Michael Loesch

The artist I looked at was Luis Castelo. He does scannography of mostly zoological nature, trying to present his subjects outside of any background to help remove any biases the viewer might have about the animals. He invented the word "digitogram" to describe the unique kind of photgraphy  done on scanners, combining the words "digital" and "photogram", a kind of early photography made by placing objects on a light-reactive surface, so scannography is a kind of digital era version of this.

My project is about my frustration with my older brother. He is just really annoying right now and thinks he konws everything, I'm reflecting that visually with all of the stuff he talks about bursting out of the back of his head as he faces me. I've also written"love" (and its Waray translation "gugma") between to reflect that I still love him, even though he is frustrating right now.

Week one update:

My brother is on the right side of the image. The cloud coming out of his head is going to be filled with all the things he lectures me about whenever he visits, and he'll probally be shooting a lazer beam from his hand once I get to it. I'm on the left, though I haven't fully fleshed out what I want to be surrounding me. This piece is not meant to villainize my brother; it's really just  a way to vent my frustrations with him. He really is a good person and means well; it just is squishing out weirdly right now.

I finished my project this week. It's not a very "smooth" image; you can tell very easily where each image delineates from the others. I'm not very skilled at Photoshop yet, so I tried to lean into this a little bit, and I think it helps the disjoint and disconnection in my and my brother's relationship come across better. The golden writing between me and my brother says "Ich love/ᜄᜓᜄ᜴ᜋ(gugma) dich noch", which is German, English, and Waray for "I still love you." I wrote "love" so that it says love in both English and Waray (gugma). I didn't conjugate it correctly because I'm not that good, yet, but I thought it was cool at least.
